[Q] Did you REALLY take all these pictures?
[A] Yes.
[Q] Why did you take all these pictures?
[A] Because I thought I'd grow up to be the world's most famous rock photographer/writer. That was the plan. So, I chased bands and crawled all over stages and got hit in the head with mic stands (among other live-rock related mishaps). And, I freelanced for the local arts&entertainment news media and fanzines, so it all made sense at the time. Then a lot of other stuff happened, including but not limited to the advent of digital photography and the beginning of the slow erosion of the print media, so I packed up my gear and started chasing the next big dream...
[Q] Do you still take photos?
[A] In a word, No. Not in any shade of "professional". If your next question might be some version of "would you...", answer is again, No. My eyes are shot and getting this collection unpacked, sorted, inventoried, digitized, and up here for you to enjoy did not do them any favors. I'm a professional writer now, and I kinda need my eyes for making a living, yo.
[Q] Why have they been locked up for decades?
[A] If brevity is your thing - because it's A LOT to deal with, in A LOT of different ways. If you want the long answer, I'll invariably write a bunch of words about it.
[Q] Are there MORE photos of this ilk in those boxes?
[A] Heavy Sigh. Yes. There are quite a few more, but I ran out of time and money. And, in varying degrees, inspiration and energy. The plan is to do a "V2" in...soon...ish. Assuming this all goes over well.
[Q] Some of this stuff is a bit of a mess - can you fix that?
[A] Maybe, maybe not. Technology has come a long way in 40 years, but it's also not magic. Also, these are film photographs, shot mostly w/o flash in low-light environments with high-speed film. So, they're grainy from the jump. It was kinda my "thing", actually. So, the original nature of the work means it was never "technically" clean, crisp, and high-fidelity. I've done what I can without messing with the actual nature of the photos and with limited time, money, and energy resources. Professional-type photography technologists would most assuredly do better but, WEIRD, they're not free. Hit me up if you want to talk "next-level" for any of these images.
[Q] Will you sell prints?
[A] Yes, actually. Yes I will. Because I'd love to recoup expenses. Because this was nasty expensive to make happen, even if I did have a few good people helping me out along the way. Because maybe there will be interest in digitizing the remainder of the Bygones collection. There are options to buy prints directly from the site, there will be a set of limited edition prints in some scenarios, Get ahold of me and we can talk about the possibilities.
[Q] Can I have one of these images digitally w/o the irritating watermark?
[A] Depends. I like you already for asking as opposed to just doing some creative screen-shotting or busting out your own wicked photoshop skills. If you're IN one of these photos, and we don't have some ancient feud that I most assuredly still remember, or maybe even some current feud, AND if you're not a jerk about it, I'll probably be really nice about it. Maybe. I'm leery of distributing digital versions of these images for probably ridiculous reasons, but definitely because I'm protective of the legacy of the work and the bands represented. I'm not completely impossible on the subject, so if you want to discuss further, Get in touch.
[Q] Would it be easier just to buy the prints? As opposed to having to do more reading or listening to your pontificating about this whole thing?
[A] Probably.
