Hailing from the hard-rocking Eastside, Rail was one of the first Seattle area hard rock bands to gain national attention. They released their debut album, Arrival, in 1980, and toured with Van Halen, Heart, Ted Nugent, Blue Oyster Cult, 3 Dog Night, Nazareth, and others. Their self-titled EP was the closest they came to chart success, cracking the Billboard 200 in 1983. Knotts was replaced by Ronnie Montrose for a few months in 1985, and the lineup performed under the name Ronnie and Rail. The four regular members continue to perform together.
