In 1980s Seattle, nobody rocked as majestically as the mighty U-Men. Tom Price’s arty, noisy guitar playing and Bigley’s gut-busting vocals blew most ‘80s bands off the stage. Every U-Men show promised a spectacle, which could involve performance art, horror movies, souvenir barf bags, and famously, a flaming moat. Those days are gone, so we have to settle for the recordings. The SubPop U-Men CD set includes songs from both EPs; the LP, their half of split singles with Melvins and Green River; and all their singles, including (most importantly) “Solid Action”/”Dig it a Hole.”
